As I spent some time watching the fantastic videos posted daily on www.good.is/video I stumbled on one in particular that raised an interesting question: "Transhumanism." The question is simple: Due to the military development and deployment of autonomous, killing drones and aircrafts, will those machines eventually turn to kill us all?
This is the question coming from the transhumanist theory that suggest that if we continue to develop and use robotic, remote-control killing devices that they will, eventually, turn around and point the guns at the people that created them (and anyone else for that matter that they come into contact with).
Please watch this video and make any comments on this intriguing idea.

this is so scary to me. it also makes war into such an easy act- as easy as a video game, and it loses its reality. when there are people behind the guns there is some sort of conscience, and maybe the human will decide against taking lives. A robot doesn't have a conscience, it kills no matter what.
ReplyDeletealso with the increase in cyberterrorism, it worries me that as the military computerizes everything- it may become more vulnerable to infiltration. I saw this argument when reading about nuclear weapons and the computers that control them.
I think the comment about cyberterrorism is a good one. As we all know, computers malfunction at any moment. If we get too far down the "rabbit hole" what will happen when that major malfunction occurs.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you read about nuclear weapons that this transhumanist philosophy came up?
